Some designs begin with a concept. This one began with a flower.

For the entrance, we worked with artichoke flowers — an unusual material rarely seen in New Zealand weddings. We were drawn to their sculptural form: somewhere between a flower and a plant, familiar in nature but unexpected in a floral arrangement.

Rather than treating the artichoke as a supporting element, we let it lead the design. Its strong shape was repeated throughout the entrance and mixed with purple flowers, allowing the material to keep its natural character while becoming part of something larger.

Sometimes, one flower is enough to begin a whole idea. Inside, the dinner moved into something softer and lighter. Small groupings of pink, green and muted florals were scattered loosely across the long tables, allowing each flower to keep its own shape and space. After the more sculptural entrance, the reception was intentionally quiet — less about making a statement, and more about letting the flowers simply exist on the table.
