Spring in Stone
St Matthew-in-the-City
Auckland
Scope: Concept, Floral Design, Installation

October marks the beginning of spring in Auckland, and daffodils are among the first flowers to appear. For this wedding at the historic St Matthew-in-the-City, we wanted to bring that first feeling of spring into the century-old stone church.
The ceremony was kept simple: masses of yellow daffodils moved through the church in one continuous line. Against the pale stone, dark timber and scale of the architecture, the flowers felt small but incredibly alive — a little piece of spring moving through the old building.

The reception was held in a small restaurant with only a few tables. Instead of creating new arrangements, every daffodil from the ceremony was brought with us and rearranged across the tables in a loose S-shaped line.

We designed the tablecloths in soft blue, using the contrast between blue and yellow to make the flowers feel even brighter. But something was still missing. The room felt a little too composed.
Then came the tomatoes.

Their red picked up the colour of the chairs and created a small bridge between the flowers and the room. Scattered between the daffodils, they added something unexpected and playful — just enough to make the whole table come alive.
